Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

I bought this lens just to capture a moon shot (a newb had to do it). I did a comparison with Sigma and Canon but since I am a cheap-o I settled with this one. Under optimal conditions, i.e. clear sky, preferred moon phase, use of tripod and shutter release cable, the photo that I captured is pretty impressive. The details of the moons’ surface is remarkable and there is very little chromatic aberration. I live in Seattle where the rain never stops and so when it is cloudy or foggy at night, the shots that I captured would need a whole lot of post-processing.

I’ve also tried it using the macro mode and boy it produces silky smooth bokeh! I’ve yet to experiment more on this feature.

The down side is this lens is really heavy and huge. DSLR cameras are bulky and this lens adds up to the bulkiness. Don’t get too frustrated though. The quality of pictures you get outweighs this disadvantage imo.

Overall, I think it is worth the price and a good upgrade from your kit lens.

In my humble opinion, any beginner to intermediate photographer cannot go wrong with this camera. I may not have the experience like some but I will say this: As a father of 4, I have no problems getting great shots of my family at any activity. Be it indoors or out, low light or in the sun, my pictures are 90% fantastic. The other 10% is my own error (rushing the shot, moving, etc…).

It is easy to setup, takes a little more time to understand all of the features but by no means impossible. Requires a little patience and understanding (like any new device).

I purchased the telephoto lens, battery grip, lens covers and speedlight and I just love the quality, speed and ease that I have to enjoy these precious moments. And with the help of Photoshop, even little mistakes disappear. All of this for an investment of less than ,000.

In these times when dollars are a little harder to come by, I found this to be a great value and extremely satisfying.

I found that the hood goes on real easy and not hard at all to get off if you use a gentle touch.
It locks on nicely and only needs a soft compression of side tabs to get off. Press too hard and you will get frustrated. Definitely over-priced for what little plastic there is but the black felting on the inside does eliminate any reflected glare. If someone could make a knock-off for half the price they would get rich.

Canon 2400 SLR Gadget Bag for EOS SLR Cameras Review

I decided that i had to have a safe place for the new 50D, and a place to keep all the misc. items . I don’t have extra lenses, so i don’t need all the compartments, which are adjustablle and are attached by velcro. I don;t remove the lens either, so I just rearranged the dividers and the camera fits snugly.
All in all, this is about as good a bag as i would need, the only negative is the laterial is a little stiff, but i think it will soften in time. Bought it thru Amazon, where i had a good selection of sellers.

I did a great deal of research before I bought this lens for my Canon Xsi (450D). It is my first Sigma lens (most others are Canon kit lenses – 18-55 mm; 55-250 mm along with a Lensbaby 2.0 and a Canon “Nifty Fifty” 50 mm 1.8 ) and I love it! I’ve already nicknamed it “The Tank” because it is hefty and well built(remember I am accustomed to kit lenses). It isn’t the type of lens you keep on the camera all the time but it is definitely one that will go where ever the camera goes! I received it at 8 PM (dusk) and the street lights were already on but I got some acceptable shots with ambient light – it is fast and sharp, even at 100% crop and the focusing is decisive with no “hunting”. If you enjoy images with non-traditional points of view this lens is worth it! I also like that it came with its own fitted, padded case – a must for a lens this expensive!

Canon Digital Rebel XSI 12MP Digital SLR Camera (Silver Body Only) Review

If you’re looking at the cameras in this price range, that means you’re likely also looking at the Pentax K-x, Nikon D5000, Sony A500, Olympus E-620 and even, potentially, the Canon T1i.

If you’re looking at DSLRs and you think video on your DSLR is something you actually want or will ever use, you best stop looking at the XSi and instead focus on the K-x, D5000 and T1i. The XSi offers NO video functionality.

If your hope is to not need to spend extra money on image stabilizing lenses, then buy the K-x or the E-620. All the above listed cameras besides these 2 require you purchase lenses with image stabilization which is an extra cost on the lens as it requires more glass. Of course, the way around the need for image stabilizing lenses is to use a tripod or a monopod.

If you don’t want to buy lenses, well, then you had better stop looking at DSLR/SLR cameras all together and jump into point and shoot. There are a lot of nice models with really good quality pictures out there.

REMEMBER, WHEN BUYING A DSLR CAMERA, you aren’t REALLY buying a camera; you’re buying a lens system. What do I mean? Well think about it this way. You are spending money on a camera body, yes. But you’re also spending money on lenses. Lenses that are NOT interchangeable (except the Olympus method that not many manufacturers jumped on and then you still have to buy lenses to their spec and you would need a replacement camera with the same capability). If you buy this body today and begin to purchase Canon lenses, you are investing in Canon for, most likely, the rest of your picture taking “career.” The camera body is the inexpensive part in this whole endeavor and if you purchase a 55-250mm lens today, along with many others, you most certainly won’t want to re-purchase these lenses when you inevitably have to upgrade the camera. And that’s where DSLR/SLR camera manufacturers get you. It’s like Gillette and their disposable razor heads.

So why then, given all the above, would one purchase the XSi over all the competition? Price is one factor. Image quality is another (the pictures this camera can take are nothing short of breathtaking, but that’s all a matter of opinion, so this is just my opinion and not a statement of fact I can quantify). One more is lens quality. Canon (well, really all the above) have been making lenses for YEARS. And in the lens department Canon and Nikon stand above the rest.

Why did I purchase this camera? Well Canon has been around a long time and actually started the DSLR revolution with the original Rebel camera. Their cameras always stand well on their own. While they may not stand head and shoulders above every camera out there, they do a tremendous job of holding their own in the market. My father owns a Rebel XT and it’s an amazing piece of kit for when it was made. I bought this one because the T1i supposedly has some photo aberrations usually attributed to the sensor size that actually captures the image being too small to really utilize the 15 MP picture it is taking.

The price is good, I bought a brand I know and I can share lenses with my father. That’s why I bought this camera.

I realize this review is pretty jumbled. Instead of writing a full review, as there are many other reviews here that do a much better job than I describing technical and non-technical details, I decided to just put down things I was thinking about as I purchased my first DSLR.

I have been using this lens for about about six months now and I love it. I’m a lover of things Nikon and the Nikon 10-24mm has a little longer range, but the copy I tried, when I was debating which one to buy, just wasn’t as sharp and didn’t focus as quickly, plus I like the fact that the f/stop stays at 3.5 throughout the range with the Sigma lens.

Nikon does build good stuff, but Sigma does too. The build quality on this lens is as good as any of my Nikon lenses.

But what is really outstanding about the vocal range of this lens, is the way you’ll see the world through it. Take it to the beach during sunrise or to the mountains on a snowy day and you’ll see what I mean. The vista through the viewfinder is to die for. A lot of people have opted out for the 18-200+mm wide to long telephotos, thinking it’s the only lens they’ll ever need. Well, I challenge them to put this lens on their camera for a day. They will be surprised.
